Musicians - Greg Wells

Greg Wells (born September 21, 1968) is a Canadian musician, record producer and songwriter. He is the first of two sons to parents Rev. Dr. Bill and Judy Wells. Younger brother Rob is a successful songwriter and record producer in Toronto.

Greg's songs are on over 45 million CDs. He is a top studio musician on drums, guitar, bass, and trained as a classical pianist. Greg has worked with Rufus Wainwright
, Cheyenne Kimball
, Otep, Pink, Jewel
, Pussycat Dolls, The Deftones, Natasha Bedingfield, Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Branch
, Jesse McCartney, Céline Dion
, Team Sleep, Crash Test Dummies, Sarah Bettens
, Hilary Duff, k.d. lang and Alex Parks
through to music legends Carole King, Elton John
, and Aerosmith. Frequent writing partners include Kara DioGuardi, Cathy Dennis, and Shelly Peiken.

Greg started from humble beginnings in hometown Peterborough, Ontario playing church organ and in local bands on different instruments. After studying classical piano at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music through his teens, at 17 he attended the Humber College Jazz Studies Program outside of Toronto. He eventually became a major player on the international music scene after moving to Los Angeles at age 21. His first official "producer" job was for the Crash Test Dummies, called Give Yourself A Hand, mostly co-written with lead singer Brad Roberts
. A Juno nomination for Best Producer followed, and the London Times wrote "wonderfully produced by Greg Wells, this is an album of rare wit and vitality." Greg has since scored #1 records around the world as both a songwriter and producer, often playing some or all of the instruments on his tracks.

Greg has carved out a decidedly eclectic career. He was k.d. lang's multi-instrumentalist for 3 years, recorded as a jazz pianist for Ahmet Ertegun, a rock drummer for Ozzy Osbourne, and arranged an orchestra and choir composition for Pope John Paul II at World Youth Day 2002.

Greg married singer/songwriter Louise Goffin on June 30, 2001, and they have two sons. Louise and Greg also collaborate musically - Greg produced her critically acclaimed 2002 CD Sometimes A Circle released on Dreamworks. Together with Kara DioGuardi, they wrote the song "Black Hole" on Lindsay Lohan's 2005 CD A Little More Personal (Raw).
