Howard Griffiths is a British conductor. Since 1996, he has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra (Zurcher Kammer Orchester). Married to a Turkish viola player in the Zurich Opera orchestra and with a son who is also a budding conductor, Griffiths has a particular penchant for music by contemprary Turkish and Swiss composers but most of the music he conducts with the ZKO fits into a classical and classical modern range, including CDs of Haydn's Creation, symphonies by Mozart and Ferdinand Ries and works by Beethoven, Pleyel, Cherubini and Handel. He has been resident in Switzerland since 1981 but has appeared as guest conductor with many of the leading orchestras of the world. He has recorded over 60 CDs under various labels.

Howard Griffiths has also been artistic director of the Orpheum Foundation for the Promotion of Young Soloists since 2000. He was appointed MBE in the 2006 New Year Honours.
