| Irving Fine (December 3 1914–August 23 1962) was a US composer. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts where he studied piano, and went to Harvard University where he was a pupil of Walter Piston. From 1950 he taught at Brandeis University, and died in Natick, Massachusetts in 1962. His compositions include a Symphony 1962, a violin sonata, a fantasia for string trio, a string quartet, a partita for wind quintet, and Serious Song, for string orchestra. Among Fine's notable composition students is Halim El-Dabh. Fine was married to Verna Fine and had three daughters: Claudia, Emily, and Joanna. His grandchildren are Isaac, Ezra, and Nina Hurwitz; Alison, Samuel, and Joseph Stein; and Alissia McClough.
