| Jani Liimatainen (born September 9 1980) is the guitarist from the band Sonata Arctica. He was born in Kemi, Finland and was one of the founding members of Sonata Arctica. Most of his technique is self-taught, even though he had a few guitar lessons on his early life. He plays an Ibanez Destroyer DT 200 Custom, and the JPM4, a John Petrucci's signature model. Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation are amongst his biggest musical influences. Jani also played with Altaria recording 4 albums, before leaving them to concentrate on his work with Sonata Arctica.
