Musicians - Jean-Thierry Boisseau

Jean-Thierry Boisseau is a French composer, poet and author, born on 1949 at Buxerolles, (near Poittiers) France.

Biography

Jean-Thierry Boisseau began his studies in his native Poitiers, studying piano, harmony and improvisation with Jean-Albert Villard, Organist of the Poitiers Cathedral. He continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum in Paris. As the son of the famous French organ builder Robert Boisseau (notably the organ builder for the last reconstruction of the Organ at Notre Dames Cathedral in Paris), Jean-Thierry Boisseau was immediately attracted to a career in music. His compositional style was influenced greatly by working with the French composer Antoine Tisné and working with the music of Germaine Tailleferre
of the Group des Six.

His catalog of musical works comprises many works for organ, including the Concerto for Organ, Percussion and Strings, "Petite Suite Liturgique"-a series of settings of Gregorian chant themes, and many works for solo organ, music for orchestra including the Acrostiche sur le Nom de CAGE, Le Jardin des Délices for Chamber orchestra, Opera and Cantatas, including L'Escalier de La Reine (text by Roland Nortel) based on the last days of the life of Marie-Antoinette and "It was the Best Of Times" a Cantata based on the opening of Dickens' Tale of Two Cities, chamber music and works for solo instruments.

As a poet, he has written text for works by Carson Cooman
, and Paul Wehage
. His article on Lévi-Strauss and Music was included in the Cahier de L'Herne on the life of this great anthropologist. His extended essay on music and politics "Histoires de la Musique" was published by L'Harmatten in November 2005.
