Musicians - Leevi Madetoja


Leevi Antti Madetoja (February 17, 1887 – October 6, 1947) was a Finnish composer.

Born in Oulu, Finland, he was the son of Antti and Anna Hyttinen. In 1913, he married the writer Hilja Onerva Lehtinen, who wrote under the pseudonym L. Onerva.

He studied music in Helsinki (1906 – 1910), Paris (1910 – 1911), Wien and Berlin (1911 – 1912).

  • Ballet: Okon Fuoko 1930
  • Symphonies: I F major 1915, II Eb major 1918, III A major 1926.
  • Symphonic poems: Tanssinäky 1991, Kullervo 1913.
