Musicians - Marcus Dods

Marcus Dods (1918 - April 30, 1984), was a British musician and composer.

He was born in Edinburgh and educated at Rugby School and King's College, Cambridge, where he won a choral scholarship. He began his career as a musical director in the film and television industries after the war, working on Laurence Olivier's screen version of Hamlet in 1948. Although a composer in his own right, he was better known as an arranger and conductor. In 1966 he became chief conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra, a post he held until 1970. As a musical director, he worked on such films as Far From the Madding Crowd (1967), Nicholas and Alexandra (1971), Lady Caroline Lamb (1972) and Murder on the Orient Express (1974). His television work included Doctor Who and The Forsyte Saga.
