Melody Gardot is an American musician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was disabled at 19, after being struck by a car while atop her bicycle. This disability affected her in many ways and led to her recognition as an unusual musician.

She made recordings bedside, while unable to walk, and was urged by a doctor to play frequently. He believed that it would help her brain injury. Gardot's desire to be well combined with a bit of luck brought her to the attention of a local radio DJ. From a bit of radio play, to a few added opportunities, she became a musician.

Melody spent all of her days at doctors. As it seems, she continues to do so. A full time patient part time hero, might be the suitable title. She writes songs mostly with guitar, occasionally getting up the nerve to play piano. It has become quite hard for her since becoming disabled, and one often sees this struggle if at a show.

She walks with a cane and dark glasses, and often has a little black box tied to her waist. This is a TENS unit. The device is said to alleviate neuralgic pain/muscle pain, but it clearly isnt enough to make her fully functional. She walks at a slower pace, and sits on somekind of pillow while playing. Likely, thtis is due to pelvic fractures that she sustained.
