Mikhail Kopelman is a Ukrainian violinist.

He was born in 1947 in the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod and studied at the Moscow Conservatory with professors Maya Glezarova and Yuri Yankelevich
.

Kopelman won second prize in the Jacques Thibaud
International Competition in Paris.

He was a member of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, and was concertmaster of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. He played first violin with the Borodin Quartet for 20 years starting in 1976. He also played first violin in the Tokyo String Quartet.

Kopelman taught at the Moscow Conservatory from 1980 to 1990.

He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1993. He is currently first violin of the Kopelman Quartet and Professor of Violin at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, USA.

Kopelman plays on a violin by luthier J. B. Guadagnini, made in 1773.
