| Nicolas Flagello (March 15, 1928 - March 16, 1994) was an American composer of classical music. Flagello was born in New York City, into a very musical family. One of his first music teachers was the composer Vittorio Giannini, and he went on to study at the Manhattan School of Music. In 1955, he went on to the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. His music was first recorded in the early 1960s, and he produced a large body of work, reaching the height of his fame with his oratorio, The Passion of Martin Luther King, in 1974. In the mid-1980s, his career was cut short by a degenerative disease.
