Paul Patterson (born 1947) is a British composer.

He studied trombone and composition at the Royal Academy of Music. He has since taught there for many years, first as Head of Composition and Contemporary Music, then as Manson Professor of Composition. He has also been associated with The King's School, Canterbury, the University of Warwick and the London Sinfonietta. He is composer-in-residence for the National Youth Orchestra and Visiting Professor at Christchurch University in Canterbury

Patterson's recent works are tonal and accessible, and include orchestral, choral, ensemble and educational music, as well as occasional work for film and TV. His best-known pieces include Timepiece (written for the King's Singers
), Little Red Riding Hood (for narrators and orchestra) and his choral Requiem. He receives frequent commissions and performances.

Patterson lives in north London.
