| Philippe Hirschhorn (1946, Lettorie – 1996, Brussels) won the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1967 (the year in which Gidon Kremer ended third). He played concerts all over the world (Europe, America and Japan) with the most prestigious orchestras conducted by amongst others von Karajan. He played together with Elisabeth Leonskaya, Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky and Brigitte Engerer. He was probably one of the best violinists of the century though nowadays he is not well known. The rare recordings that exist of him are simply stupefying not only on the technical level but certainly on the musical level.
