Musicians - Samuel Preston

::For the American Civil War naval officer, see Samuel W. Preston

Samuel Preston (born January 16, 1982), or Preston (as he prefers to be called) is the lead singer of The Ordinary Boys, an English rock band. Preston is directly descended from British Prime Minister Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey.

In January 2006, he appeared on Channel 4's Celebrity Big Brother programme.

While in the house, he formed a close friendship with fake "celebrity" Chantelle Houghton. Preston's girlfriend, Camille Aznar, was first reported to be devastated by their flirting; then to be fine with it, seeing it as a tactic for him to gain more support, before finally accusing Chantelle of being a "blonde slapper" who had manipulated Preston for her own publicity purposes.

Preston broke Big Brother rules by discussing nominations with George Galloway. The pair were punished by having to nominate three people who would automatically face the public vote. Whilst making their choices, they were unaware that they were being watched on a plasma screen by the rest of the housemates. They nominated Traci Bingham, Maggot and Rula Lenska, the latter of whom was subsequently evicted.

A few days later, Preston was told by Big Brother to read out a message to the rest of the housemates. Galloway was to be punished again, this time for discussing nominations with Lenska, saying that, if he had been given a proper choice, he would rather have nominated Preston and Chantelle. The rest of the housemates would now be allowed to conduct a private vote (using a specially constructed polling booth), on whether Galloway should be allowed a voice in the next round of nominations. Galloway lost the vote, with Preston, Traci, Chantelle and Maggot all voting against him. Preston, Traci, Chantelle and Maggot then nominated Galloway to face the public vote, and this also was passed.

The following day Preston took part, with the other housemates, in a task entitled "Bank of Big Brother". Preston and Chantelle were chosen by Big Brother to play the role of bank managers, a perk of which was to be allowed into a special hospitality room, that, aside from being designed to look like a real private members’ club, also contained a large quantity of food and drink. A plasma screen image of Preston and Chantelle, eating cream cakes, smoking cigarettes and drinking champagne, was then shown secretly to the other housemates. Both parties were told by Big Brother that if they revealed to the others the existence of the room, before the task had been completed, then they would fail it.

Upon returning from the secret room, Preston and Chantelle were closely questioned by Pete Burns as to their previous location. Preston and Chantelle responded by saying that they had been in the Diary Room. Burns then forced Preston to swear on his own mother's life that this was true. Upon completion of the task, Burns again closely questioned Preston and Chantelle, who still failed to admit to the room’s existence. They were then made fully aware of what the other housemates had seen. This resulted in Burns calling both Preston and Chantelle "liars", who had secretly "gorged" themselves like "hogs", even though they had known that their fellow housemates were living on scarce resources. Burns then implied that, having sworn on her life, Preston's mother was now dead. Galloway was equally scathing, calling Preston "a sneak," "a liar" and "a plutocrat". However, when Dennis Rodman also joined in the attack, a second row ignited between Rodman and Michael Barrymore over cigarettes, which then, subsequently, evolved into an argument, between Galloway and Barrymore, over a cigar and Barrymore’s purported self-obsession.

Finally, after having cooled off in the garden, Barrymore returned to say that everyone, himself included, were acting like children, and that this situation had been set up by Big Brother purely to make them perform for the viewing public’s entertainment. Later, in the Diary Room, Preston compared Burns and Galloway to school bullies, saying that he and Chantelle's duplicity was justified because they had only been following orders from Big Brother. Preston was ultimately evicted on the Celebrity Big Brother finale night (27 January 2006), finishing in fourth place.

Since leaving Big Brother, much media attention has focussed on the relationship between him and his former housemate Chantelle. UK celebrity magazine Heat reported that they have been together since Valentine's Day 2006.
