American-born singer/songwriter

Shirley Murdock, started singing gospel in church from a very early age. As an aspiring contemporary singer, she would sing backup as a start to her career. She eventually landed the job as backup vocals for the group Zapp and Roger, and sang various parts in their songs. She even sang small parts in Zapp's 1985 hit "Computer Love". Zapp frontman, singer/songwriter/producer Roger Troutman saw great potential in her and her impressive vocal ability, and with his help, she would begin a solo career. In 1986, she came out with her debut, self titled album Shirley Murdock!, which spawned the ethereal ballad "As We Lay", a song which would later be covered in 2000 by singer Kelly Price. In 1991, Shirley released her sophomore album, which included songs like "In Your Eyes" and "Husband". After her success as a contemporary artist, she would settle down in her native Toledo, Ohio, and return to her gospel roots. She is now a successful gospel singer, and has recently been interviewed by Sister 2 Sister magazine.
