Musicians - Simon Harris

Simon Harris (born 1962 in London) is predominantly known as the founder of the British hip hop record label Music of Life, although he is also a talented DJ, producer and remixer and pioneer of electronic music.

Biography

Simon started out working in electronics stores and DJing on local hospital radio, and at weddings and bar mitzvahs. From there, he moved into promotion, arranging club nights for local Capital Radio DJs. This led to work with DMC, and then to starting his own company with partners Froggy, KC and Chris France: their first success was a remix of "You To Me Are Everything" by The Real Thing which went to number 3 in the UK charts in 1986. This success convinced them to start their own record label, the now legendary Music of Life.

Shortly after the company was founded, Froggy and KC left to pursue their own interests. Music of Life became the home of the emerging British hip hop sound, with artists such as Derek B, Demon Boyz and MC Duke on their books. Simon continued to work on his own productions as well as those of others, creating the successful 12 volume "Beats Breaks and Scratches" albums and achieving chart success in 1988 with the Acid House track "Bass! How Low Can You Go?" (London Records, 1988)

In more recent years, Simon has moved into television production, making documentaries on Run DMC and remixing for MTV.
