| Melvin "Sy" Oliver (born December 17, 1910 — died May 28, 1988) was a jazz trumpeter, composer and bandleader. He joined Jimmie Lunceford's band in the 1930s and contributed many arrangements to the band. He later played with Tommy Dorsey and led his own jazz band for many years.
