| Zdenek Macal (born January 8, 1936 in Brno) is a Czech conductor. After a promising career in Czechoslovakia, he left the country after the Soviet-led invasion of 1968 crushed the Prague Spring, finding work first at the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra and later at the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. In 2003 he was appointed chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also Chief Conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, but his contract was cut short due to clashes with musicians and management.
