Crysis is an upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter computer game game that is currently in production by German developer Crytek, best known for the company's successful 2004 first-person shooter Far Cry
.

Story

Plot

Little is currently known about the storyline, although the basic plot was recently revealed by the developers.

The year is 2015.

The player controls Jake Dunn, the protagonist in the story, who is a United States Delta Force Soldier. Dunn is sent in to investigate an unidentified object's crash in the Sparlay Islands in the South China Sea. The United States is not the only country aware of the crash, however, as both China and North Korea are also investigating the crash site.

Gameplay

As with Far Cry, Crysis will be an open-ended game with numerous ways to meet objectives. An update to the Far Cry formula is that all weapons are capable of being modified with objects such as silencers, scopes and laser sights. Jake is also capable of being modified, as he wears a US Military Prototype "Nano Muscle Suit," which allows Jake to carry armor, reduce the amount of noise he is making, increase his speed and heal himself. All of these actions, however, will cost the suit energy (although energy recharges over time). The suit can be changed to meet a player's playing style.

Weapons

FN SCAR: The SCAR in Crysis is the 7.62mm version, which will be susceptible to modification turning it into a sniper rifle or a CQB gun.

XM102: This shoulder mounted rocket launcher is able to take down tanks, helicopters and vehicles. It features next generation targeting technology.

XM2014: This standard shotgun can be modded to include a reflex sight, targeting laster or tactical flashlight.

MPXA: This is a short range submachine gun. Again moddable to include a laser targeting system, reflex sight, flashlight and silencer.

EM70: This long range electromagnetic rifle fires metal slugs at 8 times the speed of sound. The developers call this weapon the "Anti-Vehicle Rifle".

Hand-held gatling gun: Heavy weapon which can only be used if you have a minimum level of power in your suit.

Technical

Engine

Crysis will make use of an updated version of the game engine used in Far Cry, the CryENGINE. The engine is rumored to be the first to run on the DirectX 10 framework of Windows Vista.
