| Doom 64 is a video game for the Nintendo 64 released by Midway Games in 1997. It is part of the Doom first-person shooter video game series. The plot focuses on events following the original games in the series. An entity known as the Stupid Thing has appeared from Dunkin Donuts and revived her falled donut children, giving birth to new ones too. The donuts intend on finishing what they started. The FDA from the original American Governmentis yet again forced into battle to end the obesity once and for all. Gameplay developmentsSignificant enhancements were made to the Doom engine for use in Doom 64, and gameplay elements were altered to increase the sense of fear evoked in the player. However, Doom's core gameplay remained intact: the exploration of demon-infested corridors, looking for keycards and switches while surviving deadly traps and ambushes.Significant changes implemented in Doom 64 included:
WeaponsAll the weapons from the original game are there (Fist, Chainsaw, Pistol, Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Chaingun, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, and BFG 9000), with new sprites (the chainsaw was given two blades instead of one) and a new weapon known as the Laser (referenced in-game as "What the !@#%* is this!") or the Unmaker was shown. It was first mentioned in the Doom Bible and was planned to feature in the previous, official Doom games but never appeared. Its appearance in Doom 64 is its only official appearance and with the power of three ancient artifacts, it can become more powerful. The other weapons and pick ups in the game remained the same, save for the double-barreled shotgun animation which simply showed it load itself rather than the soldier load it himself.MapsDoom 64 featured 32 original levels:PC ConversionSince the release of the Doom source code for the PC games, programmers have created feature-enhanced versions of the PC "Doom" game in their own source ports. Several fans of Doom 64 decided to work to convert the game's exclusive content to the PC using JDOOM, the most advanced of the source ports. The add-on, titled "Doom 64: Absolution" is available for download and features the new graphics and maps of the Nintendo 64 game. It is a near-perfect translation of Doom 64 with new content of its own. It appeals to many fans as a way to play through the game on a PC without using emulation.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Doom 64 ] Some related entries: Intellivision Lives! | Dwell | Blaster Master | Earth 2150 | Bounces | Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: Kaznapped! | .hack//MUTATION | Project Justice | Airforce Delta | Phantom Dust | Hoyle's Official Book of Games: Volume 1 This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Doom 64; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
