Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (Japanese: ファイアーエムブレム 蒼炎の軌跡, or Fire Emblem: Sōen no Kiseki) is a Japanese tactical role-playing game for the Nintendo GameCube, developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It is the ninth game of the Fire Emblem series, the third game in the series to be released in North America, and the first game in the entire series to be rendered in a three-dimensional, cel-shaded manner. It is also the first Fire Emblem game to be released for a home console in North America.Plot outlineFire Emblem: Path of Radiance tells a story in an all-new world on a continent called Tellius. The protagonist, Ike, the son of Greil, begins the game as the newest member of his father's mercenary company, the Greil Mercenaries. The company operates within the borders of Crimea, a nation of humans (referred to as "beorc") that shares its southern border with Gallia, a nation of beast laguz (humanoids capable of transforming into animals, also called sub-humans by haters). A few chapters into the game, another neighboring beorc nation, Daein, invades Crimea, and soon after, Ike comes across an unconscious woman in a forest that turns out to be the Crimean princess, Elincia. Faced with the ruthless Daein assault, Greil leads the mercenaries out of Crimea and towards Gallia, marking the beginning of a long journey that will take Ike, Elincia, and the mercenaries across the continent and back in an effort to defeat Daein and restore Crimea's royalty to the throne. The party is assaulted several times by Daein troops that followed them into Gallia before receiving clearance from Gallian forces to attempt any kind of communication with the Gallian king, Caineghis. Late one night, after one of these assaults, Greil is attacked and slain by the mysterious Black Knight, whom Greil claims to have trained. As Ike watches this happen from a distance, he is shaken by the death of his father. However, he is saved by the unseen King of Gallia, whose roar makes the knight retreat. Ike desperately tries to revive his father but fails. Ike then takes up leadership of the Greil Mercenaries, albeit with little confidence in his abilities. Afterwards they reach King Gallia and decide the mercenaries will go seek help from Begnion, of which Crimea was once a feifdom. A few beast laguz go along with them. Along the way to Port Toha in Crimea, the group frees prisoners from a Daein stronghold, one of whom is a mysterious monk named Sephiran. They also encounter a shady thief, Volke, who claims to have a message for Ike's father for 50,000 gold. The laguz arrange the mercenaries to leave to Begnion with Nasir, who they are familiar with, however when the townspeople discover Ranulf the Daein authorities blockade the area and Ike, to his astonishment, discovers the Crimeans would prefer the beorc Daein to rule rather than have laguz. They make a narrow escape even when the Black Knight comes to halt the ship. Ranulf, one of the laguz, tries to fight him off, but before almost dying is healed by Sephiran. Simply by asking, Sephiran gets the Black Knight to leave the ship alone. It is later revealed in a talk between the Black Knight and King Ashnard of Daein that Sephiran is the Prime Minister of Begnion and that the 'worm' got in succesfully. The party reaches Begnion after two months at sea. Along that time they meet Prince Kurthnaga of the dragon laguz. The fueding bird laguz kings are introduced, Naesala and Tibarn. After saving the apostle, the leader of the theocratic Begnion, the mercenaries are givin many assignments that uncover a laguz slave trade running through the corrupt Begnion senate. Meanwhile, after a meeting of laguz kings, Naesala tricks his childhood friend, Reyson the heron, into being sold to Duke Tanas. The mercenaries search his house when Reyson escapes to Serenes Forest, his homeland burned down years ago by Begnion citizens angry over the assasination of a former apostle, even though the herons were not to blame. The group fights Tanas' soldiers as Reyson tries to reach an alter to use a 'forbidden magic' but is stopped by Tibarn and other Phoenicans. They aid Ike's group when they see him protecting another heron found in the forest. After Tanas' defeat, the apostle apologizes to Reyson, and he and the other heron, his sister, use the altar to revive the forest through a song similar to one Ike's mother used to sing. The Fire EmblemIn the Tellius universe, the Fire Emblem takes the form of a simple bronze medallion, also known as Lehran's Medallion, which holds the soul of an evil god whose energies disrupt the level of chaotic energy in a person. It is highly dangerous for the average person to touch it because whoever holds the medallion risks going insane. One such example was when Greil touched the medallion, it caused him to go mad and kill anyone in sight, including his wife. It was only when she took the medallion from his hand in her final moments that Greil regained his sanity. Only a person with the purest of spirits is capable of holding the medallion without losing his or her mind. Ike's mother and his younger sister, Mist, are two such people.[ Visit the complete Wikipedia entry for Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance ] Some related entries: Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil | Shadowrun | Total Carnage | Shadowrun | Star Fire | Pin*Bot | Space Spartans | Shogun: Total War | Cold Fear | Midtown Madness 2 | International Soccer This page is based on the copyrighted Wikipedia article Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance; it is used under the GNU Free Documentation License.
