Video games - Flyff

Flyff, which is short for 'Fly For Fun,' is an online MMORPG made by a Korean company Aeonsoft. Flyff separates itself from most MMORPGs by having a flying system, in which players can fly around using a hoverboard or broom as a way of transportation to other islands and towns. It also offers PVP (Player vs. Player) and currently has 150 levels of possible character progression.

Game Versions

There are many different versions of Flyff available, depending on the country the player is playing from. Currently versions with servers are based in Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and Thailand with an International version serving Europe, North America and Oceania. Philippines Flyff is also in English, but it will only accept connections from IPs that are of Philippine origin. (Those who don't live in the Philippines do not get to play Philippines Flyff) Most versions of Flyff are run by a separate company that is affiliated with Aeonsoft. Below are some of the different companies running official, licensed Flyff servers.

  • Aeonsoft - Aeonsoft hosts the Korean Flyff servers.
  • Gala-Net Inc. - Gala-Net Inc. serves the International community with English Flyff.
  • Leadinia Co. Ltd. - Leadinia serves China with Chinese Flyff.
  • Excite Japan Co. Ltd - Excite Japan serves Japan with Japanese Flyff.
  • NetGames - NetGames serves the Philippines with Philippine Flyff.
  • Ini3 - Ini3 serves Thailand with Thai Flyff.

Updates

Flyff is continually updated with features ranging from added classes and items to the removal of items and enemies. None of the official servers are currently pay-to-play, and instead adapt a free-to-play system with revenue coming in from a cash shop where users can buy items with actual money. Items like cat suits or Sailor Moon outfits are sold and improved flying items like a riding cloud, which flies faster than brooms and boards made avaiable through standard play, are also available.

Story

From the Global official site: (http://flyff.gpotato.com)

In ancient times, five Gods of Lais sought to create a new world with new inhabitants that could live harmoniously among them. They gathered and agreed to create Roika Mainland; their new world. They created water and the earth, animals and plants as well as Humans. At this time, and at all times in Roika Mainland, it is a time of peace.

After years of peace, the gods decided to leave Roika Mainland and create a new world. With this, in an attempt to maintain the golden age of Roika mainland the Gods of Lais handed all of the secrets of the land as well as the core part of the revolution-genesis gear over to the kind race of Dwarf. The gods only wish was that the world would remain as beautiful and peaceful as it was in their rule...

Simultaneously, to bring happiness to the race of human, the Gods created Comedian-Clown. The Comedian Clown became enraged about bringing happiness to the race of Human and split its personality into three identities; Imagination Ipuli, Shadow Shield and Chromospheres Bobor. Under the initiation of the evil Shadow Shield, the main body-Imagination Ipuli not only chased away the kind Chromospheres Bobor, but also created numerous Human-attacking monsters. These monsters took away the revolution-genesis gear of the race dwarf and developed a new Mainland; a mainland that was angrier, stronger and prepared to destroy the race of Human.

To save the mainland from chaos, the Chromospheres Bobor inherited the mystical ancient-science and black magic of Human. For the restoration of harmonious simple life, the citizens of Roika Mainland were forced to become warriors who would fight against the evil Shadow Shield and uphold the wish of the gods.

Outnumbered and outmatched, the race Human prepares themselves for a battle that may prove to be their end!

Game mechanics

Flyff's interface, is similar to many other MMORPGs such as Lineage
. Player characters attack mobile objects to decrease their hit points towards zero and eventually destroy the mobile object, doing so whilest also being careful not to allow their own hit point to drop to zero. Food can be used by the player character to increase its hit points. Food has a short cooldown time after usage. Upon destruction of a mobile object, the player character earn experience points. Having a character's hit points reduced to zero results in death and may cause a loss of experience points. Player characters may respawn once dead, either at the nearest town or at a predetermined location visited and set by a Pang's Lodestar. Eventually a character will accumulate enough experience points to level up.

Stat points When a character gains a level up, the following stats can be modified by adding points, two are given per level up.
