Video games - Little Nemo

===The Comic Strip===

Nemo was the creative invention of Winsor McCay. He had worked as a painter, vaudeville performer and freelance artist in Ohio. In 1905 he started work on the character of Nemo as a little boy that when he fell asleep entered into a magical dreamland where he had many boyish adventures. The cartoon was a success and kept going until McCay died in 1934. His son, Robert McCay, tried to revive the comic strip in the 1930's but gave up in 1947.

The Video Game

In 1990 the video game company Capcom release Little Nemo: The Dream Master
for the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System. In the game you controlled Nemo in a side scrolling adventure through a dozen levels fighting bad animals, gaining control of good animals and looking for the keys needed to advance to the next level. Capcom was well known for producing video games based on liscensed properties that remained faithful to the characters and had superior graphics and sound. However, Nemo was given a lukewarm response by video critics that felt that the game was far too difficult and did not include any mention that the game was not an original Capcom idea. A Second Video Game was later Release for Arcade Machines, Titled "Nemo". Tokyo Movie Shinsha (TMS) in 1990 got the rights to make an animated movie based in the comicstrip, later they gave the rights to Capcom to make the Arcade games. The second player in "Nemo", Flip, appears in the music video by Tom Petty, 'Running down a Dream'.

The Film

In 1992 a film based upon the comic strip was released by Disney called Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumber Land. The writing credits went to Chris Columbus and Ray Bradbury and followed a storyline similar to the video game. It was released on DVD in 2004.
