Operation: Flashpoint 2 (OFP 2) is the sequel to 1.7 million selling computer game Operation Flashpoint. Ownership of the name and the content is the subject of debate. Bohemia are making a game called Armed Assault which is essentially OFP 1.5 which is expected to be released H1 2006: updated network, graphical and AI code from the newer OFP Xbox and VBS (Virtual Battlefield Systems) releases, with a new campaign and units. They are also working on a sequel that is essentially their work on OFP2 (currently called Game 2), but not labeled as such. Codemasters may develop a game called OFP 2 with another studio. Its also possible that their differences will be worked out and Bohemia will make OFP 2 and have it be published by Codemasters. The project leader, Marek Spanel, of Bohemia Interactive Studio, has participated in several interviews which have shed some light upon the game. The OFP online community has been contributing to the development of OFP 2 through the use of forums. During the winter of 2003, BIS launched a teaser website for OFP 2, which is located at "www.flashpoint2.com". In studying the Spanel interviews, it can be noted that OFP 2 will most certainly maintain and improve the realism which defined OFP. Physics technology is also being worked on extensively by the BIS development team. The engine developed by Bohemia Interactive will feature a highly detailed and researched ecosystem with both plants and animals that can and expand and migrate, highly detailed ballistics and physics, surprisingly intelligent AI, a large selection of modern weapons and vehicles, realistic sound effects, top notch graphics, and a first-of-it's-kind dynamic campaign. No two campaigns will be alike as they are fully dynamic and the missions totally dependent on what events lead up to it. Ballistics have also been improved greatly as the team spent the last three years designing an in-game program to measure the deflection, penetration, trajectory, and other highly detailed factors that affect ammunition. Nighttime navigation is possible because of accurate star mapping of the night sky and interaction with the AI will be very detailed because a deep conversation tree will be in place. In addition to beefed up combat features, there will be many totally new features in this game. Unlike many, if not all first person shooters on the market, this game will feature full personalities of soldiers so you can grow attached to them, which is good for the simulation because losing a teammate will cause stress among the squad and for the player. OFP2 will bring the most realistic combat and environmental (See link "OFP 2 Article") to date. In addition to an extremely large (400 sq. km) and detailed world, the player will also be presented with the task of soldiering. Unlike almost, if not all previous shooter games, OFP2 will bring unique styles of role playing elements into the game. Never has a shooter truly simulated the task of being a soldier, that is, aside from shooting and killing, the player will have to win over the hearts and minds of the civilian population in order to gain the upper hand. OFP 2 will not only simulate combat (To the tiniest detail), it will simulate war. "As you’re probably aware, we currently do not have a publisher for our upcoming games and also, the Operation Flashpoint trade mark name is an intellectual property of Codemasters and thus we cannot use the name or directly control what the name will be used for. It means that unless Codemasters were to publish any of our upcoming games (which is still a possible scenario) it definitely wouldn’t be named Operation Flashpoint 2." The game is expected to be released in early 2007, but may be pushed back further. Further information regarding this game will be released as it's release draws closer.
