Pariah is a first-person shooter computer game developed by Digital Extremes, co-developers of the Unreal franchise. It was released on May 3, 2005 for PC and Xbox. It uses a modified version of the Unreal engine and the Havok physics engine. A PlayStation 2 version has also been announced but won't ship until later.

A demo featuring the multiplayer portion of the game was released half a month before the game. A list of sites that carry the demo can be found .

Storyline

In the year 2520, Jack Mason, a medic, is on a ship transporting Karina, a woman who has a new strain of a virus. The ship is then shot down and crashes on Earth. Karina escapes and Jack has to find her before an outbreak occurs.

Characters

Jack Mason — Jack has been demoted several times, and now does menial jobs such as transporting prisoners and patients.
Karina — Jack's transport when his ship was shot down. She has some type of transgenic virus.
Stockton — Stockton is the warden of "The Anvil" prison.
Stubbs — Stubbs was Jack's pilot when his ship went down.

Gameplay

Weapons

In Pariah, WEC's (Weapon Energy Cores) allow the player to upgrade their weapons and the Healing Tool. These are scattered throughout the game.

Bone Saw - This is a melee weapon. It cannot be upgraded.

Healing Tool - This item heals the player, and makes his vision go blurry for a few seconds.
* 1st upgrade: Quick Injector — The time it takes to fully heal is quicker.
* 2nd upgrade: Health Booster — The player's health is expanded to 5 bars.
* 3rd upgrade: Adrenal Increase — The player's health is expanded more to 6 bars and also is able to run longer.

Assault Rifle (Bulldog) - A fast-firing assault rifle.
* 1st upgade: Fire Accelerator — The rate of fire is increased.
* 2nd upgrade: Recoil Stablizier — The rifle is more stable, therefore more accurate.
* 3rd upgrade: Armor piercing — The bullets become armor piercing rounds.

Grenade Launcher - A standard grenade launcher.
* 1st upgrade: Remote Detonator — You can detonate the grenade using a remote.
* 2nd upgrade: Fragment Attractor — The grenade picks up objects and debris around the grenade, and deals more damage when it explodes.
* 3rd upgrade: Target Leech — Adheres to targets.

Frag Rifle - This is a shotgun-like weapon.
* 1st upgrade: Servo Reloader — Reload time is faster.
* 2nd upgrade: Magneto Concentrator — Creates a laser mine at close range
* 3rd upgrade: Titanium Concentrator — Creates a stronger mine at close range

Plasma Gun - This weapon fires streams of hot plasma. Special goggles are required to use it.
* 1st upgrade: Arc Sphere — Fires a ball of plasma that hurts nearby enemies.
* 2nd upgrade: Defense Sphere — The sphere does more damage and its range is expanded.
* 3rd upgrade: Explosive Sphere — The sphere explodes after it burns out.

Sniper Rifle
* 1st upgrade: Enhanced Vision — The rifle's scope highlights enemies, making them easier to hit.
* 2nd upgrade: Expanded Clip — Adds more ammo to the clip.
* 3rd upgrade: Armor Piercing — Upgrades the bullets to armor piercing.

Rocket Launcher
*1st upgrade: Heat Seeking — The rockets can be guided using heat signatures.
*2nd upgrade: Dual Warhead — Two warheads are released.
*3rd upgrade: Quad Warhead — Four warheads are released.

Titan's Fist - This weapon is acquired at the end of the game, and cannot be upgraded. It fires a large energy blast that kills instantly.

Vehicles

Bogie — This is a two-manned all-terrain vehicle. The driver can control machine guns in the front, while the passenger uses roof-mounted rocket launchers and a machine gun.
Wasp — This is a single-seat, three-wheeled vehicle. It has a gatling gun on the front. This vehicle is very fast and agile.
Dart — A hover vehicle used by one person. It has two pulse cannons in the front.
Dozer — A large, tank-like vehicle. Many people can ride in it and it uses a two-round mortar shot.

Map Editor

Pariah comes with a map editor used to make multiplayer maps, similar to the ones in the TimeSplitters games. Uploaded maps then can be played online or over a LAN.
